Taylor Swift, in full Taylor Alison Swift (born December 13 1989 West Reading Pennsylvania U.S.) American pop and country music singer-songwriter whose tales of youthful heartache earned her widespread success in the early 21st century. Swift had a passion for music from an early age. She swiftly rose through the ranks, starting with roles in children's theater and eventually singing in front of a huge crowd. When Swift sang The Star-Spangled Banner in front of a Philadelphia 76ers game when she was 11 she had already begun writing songs. The next year she took up guitar. Taking her inspiration from musicians from the country genre like Shania Twain and the Dixie Chicks (now the Chicks) Swift crafted original music that was a reflection of her experience of tween alienation. At the age of 13, Swift's parents decided to sell their farm in Pennsylvania and moved towards Hendersonville Tennessee so she could devote more of her time to courting country labels in nearby Nashville.
